In keeping with its focus on results, The Health Foundation has commissioned four evaluations which culminated in the Formative Evaluation Results, the Evaluation Report for The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts: Analyses of Their First Five Years of Grantmaking (2000-2005), the Evaluation Report for The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts: Analyses of Its First Ten Years of Grantmaking (2000-2010), and Insights on the Health Care and Health Promotion Synergy Initiative Model of Collaborative Problem-Solving.
These reports analyzed the impact of the Foundation’s three grant funding avenues: the Synergy Initiative, the Activation Fund and Board Designated grants.
An evaluation of the Foundation’s grantmaking concluded that the Foundation has made a positive impact on the region’s health, particularly by addressing oral health, mental health, homelessness, and hunger.

“I consistently hold up The Health Foundation’s Synergy Initiative as the model for how foundations should go about promoting collaborative problem solving. – bringing rigorous program development and evaluation to groups that determine for themselves which issues they want to address.”
