About the Fund 

In 2000, The Health Foundation created The Health Foundation Fund, Inc. as a 501(c)3 public charity affiliate to establish a vehicle for accepting donations aimed at supporting its mission  and for acting as a fiscal sponsor for coalitions or programs without tax-exempt status. Unlike many other healthcare conversion foundations that were created as  private foundations, the founders of The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, Inc. intentionally sought to retain the plan’s tax-exempt status as a 501(c)4 organization, enabling the use of lobbying as a tool for influencing policy and systems change along with grantmaking.  

Because contributions to a 501(c)4 organization are not tax-deductible, the Foundation launched this fund to increase its fundraising capacity.
