Amie Shei, PhD, President and CEO

Amie Shei, PhD is President and CEO of The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, a health conversion foundation based in the heart of the Commonwealth. Dr. Shei joined the Foundation in 2016 and has served as the president and CEO since April 2022. She leads the Foundation’s efforts to advance health equity and regional equity in Massachusetts through advocacy, grantmaking, and thought leadership. She was named USA TODAY’s Woman of the Year for Massachusetts in 2025 and one of the Worcester Business Journal’s Power 100 in 2024 and 2025.

Dr. Shei currently serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations including Health Care For All, the Health Equity Compact, the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, and MassINC. Her public service includes appointments by Governor Maura Healey to serve on the Children’s Trust Board of Directors and the Transportation Funding Task Force and an appointment by Attorney General Andrea Campbell to serve on the Center for Health Information and Analysis Oversight Council.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Shei worked in health care strategy and health economics and outcomes research consulting at Health Advances and Analysis Group, respectively, and she also taught community health at Tufts University. Her research and writing have been published by varied media outlets and health journals, including the Boston Business Journal, CommonWealth Beacon, Health Affairs, Public Health Reports, and The Boston Globe.

Dr. Shei earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Amherst College, a Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health, and a doctoral degree in Health Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She received several fellowships to support her dissertation research on the health impacts of an anti-poverty program in Brazil, including a Fulbright Fellowship from the U.S. Department of State. As a dedicated lifelong learner, Dr. Shei is enrolled in the MIT Sloan School of Management Executive MBA program.
